Adobe’s laying on the Web subscription message thick in the newest versions of Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements. For example the Welcome screen, which is your first encounter with either one of the applications, has completely changed. The standard options of Organize, Edit, Create, and Share get relegated to a task bar that’s somewhat unremarkable compared to the large, rotating slide show heralding the many benefits of the free and $49.99 Plus memberships for Photoshop.com (20GB-plus of storage space, remote backup, and project templates). It’s honestly couldn’t be any more annoying than those pop-up ads you get when your browser is infecte4d. It is really a shame since Photoshop Elements is a great middle of the road photo editor; regrettably all of these bells and whistles detract from the foundation that made it so popular.

The program’s main advantage is that it’s cheaper than Photoshop and Lightroom, but remains powerful enough for most photo retouching tasks. Thus, the improved raw workflow is quite welcome–improved, in that you can bypass it entirely if you want. For example, to create a slide show of NEF (Nikon raw) files, it simply applies the default raw-processing settings and treats them like JPEGs.

There is also a new text search box in the organizer, which is a fast, easy way to filter by keywords or basic metadata. Be warned however that it is very basic metadata only; you can only search on time, data, camera, and caption text. But that should be sufficient for basic home users.

Obviously there is always one new and incredible feature per version; Elements 7 is no different and has the Photomerge Scene Cleaner which is an extension of Group Shot. It allows you to seamlessly combine variations of a photo to eliminate unwanted objects in the scene. Typically features like these never work for me without a great bit of work on my end; amazingly enough this one did, on two random photos (which met the similarity criteria). I haven’t tried the other variations, Photomerge Faces, or Panorama–but those are derivative of existing Photoshop CS3 tools.

Adobe has also modernized their fine-tuning operations through the use of Smart Brushes, which consolidate multi-operation adjustments, such as selecting then creating a new effects layer, into a single selection operation that automatically generates the layer and mask.

However, I can’t get around how confusing the user interface remains, in part because everything seems organized by technology, rather than by task. Before and after views are still only available in Quick Fix and Guided modes. A hodgepodge of stuff lives on the Guided palette, some of which you can’t find elsewhere in the program, like the Photomerge tools, or which don’t seem guiding at all, like the Saturated Slide Film effect or the Action Player. The latter runs scripts that request user input, which is why I suspect they’re considered Guided, but in that respect they’re no different than dialog boxes or Wizards. I just can’t remember where to find things a lot of the time.

Unfortunately, these are the things that rarely change before the product ships. Stuff that I expect to improve are the performance (the beta is slow) and the selection of presets, actions, and templates (they’re pretty thin). But I’ll check back when it ships at the end of September and see if there are any pleasant surprises. Price is either $79.99 or $99.99, depending on if you buy it via the Adobe store and/or believe in mail-in rebates. Add $40 for the plus-membership option.

What is your favorite pastime? Hobby enthusiasts know that free time is not to be “spent”, but savored. If you have a past time that you enjoy, never look at his leisure in the same way again. If you are not sure what the last time your favorite hobby to you, here are some suggestions.

Many people listen to music as a hobby. There is much you can learn about all types of music. You can learn composers famous melodies, and all the performers in the past and the present. You can develop sophisticated tastes in jazz or classical music or to collect a wide variety of CD’s. Music is a great time hobby.

A lot of people who love animals. Animals of all kinds may become his hobby. If you like to watch birds. If you have trouble finding the trees to see, perhaps he would like to get a couple of canaries, a budgie, or a cockatiel. People living in the country are sometimes interested in raising ornamental chickens, pigeons, pheasants o. It is very interesting to see a mother bird caring for a nest of young chicks. Perhaps you can even raise some award winners!

Dogs make a great hobby, too. Walking and enjoying a dog is one thing, but the breeding and raising of dogs to be something else. Show dogs may need a bit of an investment, but many puppies are free. There is also the aspect of training a dog obedience. Dogs give a lot of love to their owners, so if you start a hobby hobby of caring for a dog, you will never be alone. However, dogs require a little work and attention, especially when they are formed, to keeping dogs is not for everyone.

Bicycles can be your hobby. Hobby cyclists are becoming increasingly common to see less traveled by bicycle along the highways up close and personal the campaign. Cycling requires a helmet and appropriate clothing, and a small tool kit for repairs side of the road. Or perhaps you do enjoy cycling on a smaller scale, simply taking pleasure walks with your family. The choice is yours.

The world is full of interesting things to learn and do. Do not just sit and watch television. Get interested in a time hobby. It’s good for your mind. In fact, they may even prevent you from going senile in your old age, if you stay active in a time hobby. And it’s a good example to our children and grandchildren if we spend our time doing something significant.

Photoshop software is ideal if you want to retouch digital images, apply special effects to your images and will also help you prepare photographs for the web. If you need to resize images, add filters and styles, Adobe Photoshop is the software for you.

There are a variety of versions of Photoshop, but the for the amateur photographer or the professional who is new to digital photography, Photoshop Elements is easy to learn and comes with a low price tag and a host of creative tools that help with image manipulation.

If you wish to retouch your image there are a massive amount of choices of brushes available in Photoshop. Images can be changed by painting with the brushes over the area you want to change. Red eye in a photo can be removed in less than two minutes. You can also remove unwanted items from an image. If you have photos that have poor quality there is a sharp tool to sharpen certain areas of an image.

There are 15 types of file format that you can save your images to, giving you the possibility of creating images for a large amount of different projects. This includes images for the web, for slideshows, and for many different forms of printing.

Elements can also help create images for the web. Most people may, at some point or another, wish to create a website, and with Photoshop, preparing your images is simple. It also helps you to resize images that are being attached to an e-mail.

Creating a web gallery can be a lot of work but Photoshop can open a group of images, resize them, create a thumbnail gallery and create all the navigation HTML buttons for your site. It will create a folder for your web files and save it on your computer.

Photoshop Elements also contains a slide show, which is a very easy way of showcasing your images. Slideshow presentations are saved in PDF format making them easy to e-mail or download. To view a slideshow you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer.

Also included is a video frame capture tool. This feature allows you to capture any frame from a video and save it as a stand-alone image. Images created using frame capture can be edited the same as any standard image.

If you need to work on the color in your image Photoshop has a wide range of tools that will help. You can also turn your color images into black and white shots in less than five minutes. You can also work with filters to images to warm colors up or create different tones.

The most important feature of Photoshop is the Toolbox. The Toolbox contains all the editing tools that you need in order to burn, dodge, clone, blur, sharpen or smudge an image. This box also contains handy tools to crop and zoom in on an image.

There are many artists worldwide who make a living by retouching images with advanced image software. Learning how to use Photoshop correctly will be a massive help to your digital photography, and if you are a keen photographer it should become part of your digital darkroom.

You may have heard some people say that nude photography isn't a good idea, but these people are thinking of exploitative kinds of shoots.

by Moe Marny

You may have heard some people say that nude photography isn’t a good idea, but these people are thinking of exploitative kinds of shoots. The truth of the matter is that these people are painting with too broad a stroke - there’s nothing wrong with the human body.

When done by a skilled photographer with the experience to make them work, images of our bodies in their most natural state is one of the most captivating art forms in existence. You shouldn’t let people who aren’t willing to take a second look at the beauty offered by the human body tell you there’s something wrong with it.

Nude photographs have the potential to be the ultimate expression of our individuality. In them, we allow nothing to come between ourselves and the world around us - not even clothes. Nude photos can turn out to be some of the most personal images around.

These kinds of pictures tell a story without words, and that story is about who lives in our bodies and what we’re really like under the clothing.

Perfect bodies aren’t required for this kind of photography - after all, no one really has one. Media images are retouched to hide imperfections, which are what makes the model interesting.

If you want an image that really tells the whole story, take nude photography into consideration. Whether it’s a single image of yourself or a series, whether you have the photos taken alone or with someone who’s special to you, there’s nothing like this kind of imagery.

With nude photography, we have the ability to express ourselves and our personalities, as well as our existence as sensual beings. There’s no interference from clothing or artificial things, and nothing in these amazing photos is hidden.

The experience of making these images is just as special as they are, so you need to make sure you’re comfortable with the photographer you choose. Make sure your session will be personal and unique, and don’t allow yourself to feel pushed or rushed.

Make sure you find someone who’s willing to work at your pace and your particular comfort level. They should let you show only what you’re willing to, rather than pushing you to go further and be more daring.

Of course, a session that’s done without clothing doesn’t necessarily have to be seductive or sexual, though it certainly can be if you want it to. If you want some assistance in getting through shyness, however, make sure you talk about it to the photographer and anyone else involved to define the boundaries.

Nude photography can be an incredibly valuable experience, allowing us to open ourselves to the camera. It doesn’t matter what we look like or what our ages are - these are the most true and beautiful photos there are.

Celebrate yourself by contracting with an experienced photographer such as Viva Photo or a similar company to create this kind of image. It’s an experience like no other.

Canon has made a statement regarding concerns that have been raised about the EOS 5D Mk II. The message addresses the widely discussed ‘Black Dot’ and ‘Vertical Banding’ issues that have been reported by current and prospective owners who have been studying the camera’s output. The company says it is looking into both issues and is planning to develop measures to reduce or eliminate these phenomena.

Canon statement:

To Owners of the EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Camera

Thank you for using Canon products.

We have learned that some users of the Canon EOS 5D Mark II digital SLR camera have identified two types of image quality phenomena that appear under certain shooting conditions.

1. “Black dot” phenomenon (the right side of point light sources becomes black) 2. Vertical banding noise

We are currently investigating and analyzing the causes, and examining measures to reduce or eliminate these phenomena by providing correction firmware. An announcement will be made on www.canon-europe.com as soon as measures have been determined.

Details of the phenomena and shooting conditions under which they are likely to occur are as follows.

1. “Black dot” phenomenon (the right side of point light sources becomes black) When shooting night scenes, the right side of point light sources (such as lights from building windows) may become black. The phenomenon may become visible if the images are enlarged to 100% or above on a monitor or if extremely large prints of the images are made.

2. Vertical banding noise If the recording format is set to sRAW1, vertical banding noise may become visible depending on the camera settings, subject, and background. ? Vertical banding noise is not noticeable if the recording format is set to sRAW2. ? Vertical banding noise does not occur if the recording format is set to RAW or JPEG. ? Noise can be reduced if C.Fn II-3: Highlight tone priority is set to 0: Disable.

Canon apologizes for any inconvenience caused and thanks photographers for their patience.

by David Peters

It appears that things at Adobe are getting better and better. CS3 gave us new features such as non-destructive smart filters, quick selection, 3D compositing, enhanced RAW image processing and HDR support.

Adobe’s new software, Creative Suite 4, is intended to meet special challenges such as effective collaborations between designers and developers, embracing new media, reinventing publishing and embracing the explosion of connected media. Chad Seigel, Group Manager for Creative Suite has been quoted as saying, “Adobe is trying to break barriers and integrate all products.”

Changes to Photoshop CS4 include an improved interface with the entire application enclosed in the frame which means dual monitor users can have more than one application running. The workspace switcher is for swapping between applications such as Camera RAW 5 and Bridge.

Welcome improvements appear in the form of the zoom ratio which is less likely to show jagged or pixelated lines and also boasts a flicker free zoom. Rotating the canvas can also now be done without jagged lines and the brush size can be previewed on the document. This means that when the tool is placed over the image it can be moved in size and allows you to see it before you use it.

The Dodge/Burn tool has been improved so when you’re adjusting the shadows, midtones or highlights the tool won’t impose on the other two. When adjusting the saturation on the sponge tool it won’t move out of acceptable gamma.

Another change is the preview window which is now in the tab instead of a new window that overlaps the image. Because of this change your picture can be viewed in its entirety and as an added bonus tools such as curves can be adjusted directly on the image for localized amendments. Adjustment has its own dedicated window that includes all the tools found in the area such as levels, curves, brightness/contrast and exposure.

The icons are simplified for efficient use meaning you can see what you want to do a lot faster than before.

The mask panel allows you to choose an area which can be manipulated and even inverted which is good for selective color images.

The mask panel allows you to select an area which can be manipulated and even inverted which is good for selective color images.

One of the more amazing features is a content aware cropping facility. It works by first masking the areas you wish to retain in the picture. The image can then be resized and the parts that are protected won’t be cropped into. The program will start to remove areas in between which is an amazing feature to see and use.

An improved blend layer mode has been added and is great for procedures such as focus stacking. The program automatically adjusts the exposure and color so there’s no need to mess about first.

Please note that the images must be loaded in as layers and highlighted. Once you have done that click on Edit>Auto blend layers and the images will be composited together. Also note that you must be patient as the process can take some time.

This process can also be helpful if you want to create HDR images if you prefer the ones without the ethereal effect that most systems produce.

Photoshop Product Manager, Bryan Hughes, is quite adamant that this isn’t a HDR tool as it doesn’t give a full high dynamic range in all areas so the familiar ethereal look of a HDR image is absent. He added that if need be it could be described as a clipped version of HDR.

Photoshop CS4 Extended features support for 3D. Two dimensional images can be changed to 3D by giving them x, y and z co-ordinates and these images can then be wrapped around imported 3D images. Photoshop CS4 works in conjunction with Google 3D warehouse where you can import thousands of 3D images. Merging a 2D image onto a 3D image is simple since the only command you need use is the Merge button. The 2D layer acquires all the 3D attributes such as decay detail, color and reflections. The 3D image can be manipulated as well and you can also enjoy features such as creating cut-outs, adding detail or changing colors to the interior of the cut-out.

As an added bonus, a feature has been added for help with people who are colour blind. Colours in Photoshop CS4 can be adjusted for true colour blindness.

One feature missing in CS4 is the quick tools from the image window bar. When you’ve opened an image, right clicking on the header bar has brought up five options of duplicate, image size, canvas size, file info for metadata and page set up. I often used these, especially file info, and to find it’s not there has added time to my workflow.

At the press release for Photoshop CS4 I was bursting with excitement when I saw the features it could do. The newest features such as the auto blend and content aware croping feature are astounding. I also enjoy using the localised adjustments on Lightroom 2 so it’ll be really beneficial on Photoshop CS4.

Check out the upgrades box and see if you’ll use all those extra features. Add to that the efficient zooming and 89 percent less drag on the mouse making it move across the screen faster.

Bear in mind that the list is for the Extended version which supports the 3D applications. If you don’t need those then don’t bother with Extended but as far as I’m concerned this new version is the best one yet.

I received an in-depth document that details tons of Adobe CS4 information and it’s mostly info regarding Photoshop CS4, Bridge CS4 and the launch date of the latest version of Adobe’s Creative Suite.

First of all, the launch date is going to be around or during Adobe Max which takes place November 16th-19th in San Francisco or at the end of September around the 23rd. Adobe Creative Suite product cycles are around 18 months and Adobe CS3 was released on April 16th, 2007 so Adobe Max would mean 19 months since the last release. Let’s take a look at some features that may or may not be included in Adobe CS4.

Adobe Photoshop CS4: Codename: Adobe Stonehenge CS4 Extended. Splash screen is Stonehenge. 1. Interface is similar to CS3 but there are small and minor polishes that complete the look. 2. Support for “Extensions” under the “Window” menu 3. The extension manager is in every CS4 application 3. “kuler” which is a Intranet color pallet collaboration tool for sharing color swatches with others on your team. 4. Flash Support (more on this later)

Adobe Panel Configurator 1.0 (Alpha Version): 1. It’s a way to create Photoshop toolboxes. 2. Choose from over 860+ commands, tools and application features and create your own toolboxes that work in any CS4 application 3. Supports Actions and Scripts too 4. Drag and drop text fields into these toolboxes 5. Support for SWF and Quicktime video files in toolboxes (not sure why) 6. Export the toolbar file and open it in any CS4 application.

CS4 Suite New Features: 1. Flash SWF support across all applications 2. You can play SWF files in any app 3. A tool is being developed for creating flash content without any coding experience

Adobe Bridge CS4: 1. New User-Interface 2. Sidebar and search tool location similar to Mac OS Leopard 3. Navigation in folders similar to Windows Vista Explorer 4. Labels and star ratings are easier to access. 5. Filtered searches are now much faster even across thousands of images 6. List View in Bridge 7. Auto Photo Downloader to download photos from your camera is now easier and better than Bridge CS3 8. Improved slideshows using your spacebar 9. From Slideshow, press “r” and Adobe Camera Raw opens automatically. 10. Review Mode: (full screen review of photos) a. Just like a full screen version of Apple coverflow b. Loopt tool built in c. The ability to open all, review, and drop photos out of view that you don’t want and others stay full screen d. When leaving review mode the photos you kept are now selected in bridge. Ones you dropped are still there but not selected. e. You now have the ability to create photo-collections from within review mode 11. Collections are just like Playlists in iTunes. You have the ability to group photos. The location where photos are stored is not changed. 12. More sharing options a. Upload directly to FTP within Bridge b. Web gallery templates are easy and use the same templates available in Lightroom 2 c. Ability to create flash galleries with a few clicks and upload instantly d. Uses the Opera engine to render galleries within Bridge e. Photoshop Web Gallery is going away and being replaced by Bridge Web Gallery 13. Bridge CS4 Menus (in order left to right) File - Edit - View - Sttacks - Label - Tools - Window - Help

Adobe CS4 Applications are exactly the same as CS3 but the text in the icons is black instead of white.

Digital cameras have reinvented photography. Based on “no film theory,” digital cameras have started a whole new era of photography where the information is stored as digital-bytes in the form of pixels, which we all know, are tiny colored dots represented by ones and zeros. And the camera keeps the pictures, you have taken, safe and ready to view/ store/print. As the captured pictures are stored in digital form, almost every computer and other electronic viewing and printing device can read them too.

Similar to conventional cameras, digital cameras also work with a series of lenses that focus the light and creates the image that you want to capture. Using an electronic system, a lower specification Digital camera does away with film although it is still capturing the light as with a traditional camera.

CMOS sensors are less expensive and are easier to manufacture than CCD sensors. As such CMOS device is used in cheaper cameras and does the same work as a CCD. In comparatively expensive models, the system uses a CCD sensor. A Digital camera user can see the difference between images captured with a CMOS and CCD system. A model with over 6 megapixels will provide decent images as higher the resolution of the camera the better the photos that can be printed.

Since people don’t want to wait for film to be processed and returned, the demand for digital cameras continues to grow. Since there is no longer need for mechanical parts to move the film cartridge the size of a digital camera is only determined by the size of the battery needed to power it. This feature has made it possible to manufacture easy to carry models and subsequently made them so popular.

Digital cameras are available in a variety of types such as Digital camera, Underwater Digital camera, IP camera, Hidden or spy camera, Mini camera, Polaroid Camera, Camera phones.

Daily more models/systems with the latest technology are coming to the market. Naturally people need a place where they can view latest models and that too at affordable price. To find them all at one place where information is updated every minute, and every item is available at the prices you desire/offer you can do an internet search using the keyword “compare digital cameras”.

Photographs capture moments in time that we want to look back at later. Family photos are most valuable as the entire family is together at the same time. Getting the family ready for the event can be challenging if you have several young children. On location photography is a great service for the family with several young children. Imagine the following scene:

A young family with 3 pre-school aged children has an appointment with a local photo studio to have professional family photos taken. They’ve always wanted a large family portrait to hang above the fireplace. Family and friends are always asking for pictures of the kids. So, the young family finally has an appointment; all they have to do is get ready for the event and head to the studio.

The young couple scrambled to get everyone dressed and looking their best; the stress from the activity has given the 6-month old a nervous stomach; he keeps spitting up. Better take an extra outfit, just in case. On the way out to the car, the 2-1/2 year old trips and falls, getting grass stains on her dress. The oldest one is waiting by the car, actually, leaning on the car which should have been washed days ago! Dirt is smudged on his clothes. Oh well! Maybe the photographer can strategically pose everyone so the dirt doesn’t show in the pictures!

So, everyone is in the car and the family is on their way to the photo studio. At this point, they can hardly wait to get this over with. They arrive at the studio and are led to a room where they will have their photos done. Mom helps the children remove coats, straighten clothing, fix hair and get ready for photos. She also needs to put that extra outfit on the baby. Too bad she isn’t able to do something about the fact that is face is red and blotchy from crying earlier; it was a rough morning.

See the picture? This beautiful, happy family, with their nerves wearing thin, is about to have professional photographs taken. What they thought would be such a great idea has turned into a nightmare. It sure would have been nice to just get everyone ready, once, and then have the photographer show up at their home to take the photos. No one would be stressed out, trying to get ready and get to the studio; therefore, the baby would have a much happier morning as well. Everyone would be more relaxed and the children won’t have had the chance to get dirty on the way to the car.

Too bad this family didn’t consider on location photography. The photographer brings everything that is needed to create studio quality professional photos. A family can have their own home as the background, or the photographer can bring special material to create different background.

On location photography is the best for recording weddings and special events like graduations, family reunions, parties and more. You just can’t beat the convenience of on-site photography, where the photographer comes to you, fully equipped with a traveling photo studio. It is so much easier for families with young children to have family photos taken right in their home; this way, they can easily include their pets too.

Of you are like me you have photographs in albums or frames that have been damaged by the sun or general wear and tear. Thanks to technology available through the computer and photo editing software, including Adobe Photoshop Elements, we can easily restore these cherished photographs.

Photoshop Elements is an easy to learn program. Using Elements you have options that can help restore your photographs. One of these tools is the Dust and Scratch Filter which can be used to remove any marks, scratches and blots on your old photos. The Dust and Scratch Filter is found on the Menu Bar under the Filter Tab. A drop down menu lists your choices where you want to click on the Noise tab and then Dust and Scratches.

After selecting the Dust and Scratches menu, a pop up window opens with two control sliders. The first slider option is called the Radius and the other one is called the Threshold. If the preview box is checked you may also have another window open. The main options we use when restoring photos are radius and threshold.

You can try to adjust the Radius slider which may remove the scratches. Please be aware that overdoing it may make the edges blurred as well. If blurring happens you can adjust the Threshold slider. This should allow the details to return and make the picture clearer with the scratches disappearing. You should be careful not to set the sliders too far or you will only create blotches on the picture.

To get rid of any marks you want to highlight only the part of the photo where the scratches are located, not the entire photograph. To highlight these areas you use the Lasso tool.

Once you have fixed the damaged areas you can use the feather tool to soften the edges of the selected area so that the fixed area will not be obvious on the picture. To use the feather tool you select the Feather option and choose the Scratch and Dust Filter again. You may want to do the radius and threshold adjustment process again to get the correct texture and make sure all the scratches and marks are removed.

To finish the restoration process and make the photograph appear professional I recommend you crop the image to remove any rips or torn edges. You can also use the canvas to equally crop the image.

You can add drama to the picture by adding a drop shadow. This makes the photo appear as if it has been lifted off the page. You can also remove color from the photo using tools Shift+Ctrl+U. Once it is black and white you can then add color by putting a little amount of Sepia. This is done on the Hue or Saturation tab. The contrast may be adjusted using the Levels option.

This is only one very easy way to remove blotches and marks on an old picture. It is also a good way to make the picture look new but still appear classical. It will be a pleasant and easy way to display pictures kept on old albums and cabinets for a long time.
